Rejected Postback Configuration Apptrove

Updated this week

At a Glance: This article explains how rejected postbacks work in Apptrove and how you can configure them to track invalid or blocked conversion events for better transparency and debugging.

Introduction

In some cases, conversion events sent to Apptrove are rejected due to fraud detection rules, misconfigured parameters, or invalid data. While these events are not attributed or billed, you may still want to track them for auditing, reporting, or optimization. Apptrove allows you to configure a Rejected Postback to send these events back to your systems or third-party tools, similar to how default postbacks work.

How to Configure Rejected Postbacks

To set up a rejected postback, follow these steps

Dashboard → (...) → Postback Configuration → Rejected Install Postback

This takes you to a tab where you can define and manage postbacks for rejected events.

The setup process is similar to configuring your standard postback. You'll be able to:

  • Choose the Tracking Platform

  • Define the Rejected Postback URL (where the rejected event data should be sent)

  • Map the required parameters (e.g., click_id, reason, event_name, etc.)

  • Use dynamic macros supported by Apptrove

  • Choose the HTTP method.(By default Approve uses the GET method)

These postbacks are triggered only when an event is explicitly rejected, for example, due to a custom rule, campaign restriction, or invalid attribution condition.

Notes

  • Rejected postbacks are only triggered for events that fail validation or are marked as rejected by Fraud Shield or Advertiser level settings.

  • They will not interfere with your default postback logic.

  • Ensure the receiving endpoint can parse the data and handle it appropriately.

Use Cases for Rejected Postbacks

  • Partner Debugging: Allow publishers or agencies to track and understand why conversions are being rejected.

  • Audit Trail: Keep a record of blocked events for internal QA or compliance.

  • Re-targeting: Route rejected events into a different funnel for future targeting.
