Disable Install Postbacks

Preventing Install Postbacks for Apptrove

Updated this week

At a Glance: This article provides step-by-step instructions to disable install postbacks in your Trackier campaigns using a custom parameter.

Overview

Install postbacks are server-to-server notifications triggered after a successful installation event. They are essential for attribution, but there are cases, such as A/B testing, internal analysis, or limited partner access, where disabling these postbacks is required.

Apptrove enables this functionality via a simple parameter addition in your CTA or attribution link.

When to Disable Install Postbacks

You might consider disabling install postbacks in the following cases:

  • Testing Campaign Performance: Run internal tests without notifying affiliates.

  • Data Flow Management: Fine-tune how install data is reported and stored.

  • Partner Agreement Compliance: Adhere to data-sharing restrictions agreed with specific ad networks.

Steps to Disable the Install Postback

1. Login to the Apptrove Dashboard

  • Use your login credentials to access the Apptrove Partner dashboard.

  • Select the Application for which you wish to disable the install postback.

2. Navigate to Integration Details

Integration Details

  • Go to the Attribution Links section.

Attribution Links

  • Locate the CTA link for the campaign you wish to modify and copy the link.

3. Add the Parameter to Your Attribution Link

Insert the following parameter into your CTA or attribution link:

tr_disableinstallpb=true

Example Attribution URL:

https://track.apptrove.com/c/MYcJ6a79MQ?click_id={click_id}&site_id={publisher_id}_{source}&pid=kFyW2bEizc&lbw=12h&agid=jfT8lEVtBi&tr_disableinstallpb=true

This ensures:

  • Installs are recorded on the dashboard.

  • Install postbacks are NOT fired to the affiliates.

  • Other event postbacks (e.g., registration, purchase) continue as configured.

Note: Want to re-enable install postbacks? Just remove the parameter or set tr_disableinstallpb=false

4. Test your Campaign

  • Test your CTA link to confirm install tracking and the absence of postback firing by updating the Campaign URL.

By following the outlined steps above, you can effectively control the installation data flow in your CPA campaigns. This helps you maintain flexibility in your campaign testing and partner reporting processes.
