Overview
A reinstall occurs when a user uninstalls an app and then installs it again on the same device. Apptrove tracks reinstalls using a re-attribution process that recognizes returning users after a configured inactivity period, allowing for precise re-engagement measurement.
Apptrove’s Re-attribution Logic for Reinstalls
Inactivity Window: Apptrove defines an inactivity window during which if a user uninstalls and then reinstalls the app, the reinstall is considered a re-attribution rather than a new install. The default inactivity window is 60 days, but this can be customized according to campaign needs.
Re-attribution Rule: If the user reinstalls after being inactive for longer than the inactivity window, the reinstall is attributed as a re-attribution to the retargeting campaign or source.
No Re-attribution if Within Window: If the user reinstalls before the inactivity window expires, the reinstall is attributed as part of the original install, not counted as a re-attribution.
Resetting Attribution: Upon re-attribution, Apptrove resets the user’s source attribution for all future in-app events, ensuring that subsequent events credit the retargeting campaign.
Re-engagement Window: This window determines how long after re-attribution events will be credited to the retargeting source.
Reinstall Attribution Workflow
Uninstall Detection: Apptrove detects when a user uninstalls your app, starting the inactivity window clock.
Reinstall Event: When the app is reinstalled on the same device, Apptrove checks how long the user was inactive.
If inactivity > inactivity window (default 60 days): The reinstall is tagged as a re-attribution to the retargeting source.
If inactivity ≤ inactivity window: The reinstall is attributed to the original install source.
Post Reinstall Tracking: All in-app events after a re-attribution are attributed to the retargeting campaign unless another attribution event occurs.
Configuring Reinstall Measurement in Apptrove
Set Custom Inactivity Window: Adjust the inactivity window in Apptrove settings to reflect your user and campaign behavior. The default is 60 days, but shorter or longer durations can be used.
Enable Retargeting Campaigns: Make sure retargeting campaigns are properly configured to capture re-attributions.
Analyze Re-attributions Separately: Use Apptrove analytics tools to distinguish re-attributed users from new users for better campaign optimization.
